Streets of New York 5843 W. Thunderbird : They made for a Mother of a service . AVOID!
This franchise decided that on a Mother’s day that having two front of house staff, one on his third day is acceptable staffing for a busy period. They had no milk, there was no coffee, we had to get our own silverware, petition for menu and then go get our sugar ( this is all small stuff but when you realize that’s what we pay for it becomes annoying,)
Finally get an order in and the order was not matching the description. Their garlic pizza has Alfredo sauce, this one came with tomato which doesn’t agree with Erin. So let’s ask them to change it. Oops they say we don’t have Alfredo sauce either. At this point I was just fed up and asked to see someone.
It went badly , seemingly we should know that their pizza when ordered by the slice is always tomato and that the waiter told us otherwise , and that we believed him, is something we should basically accept and eat. The story changed to say we do have the sauce but that it’s not available by the slice. No effort made to correct it and by the time she decided to argue with my wife it was a case of I’ll pay for the drinks, salad we had and leave. She said ok , then turned round and in front of the other customers basically said , no , why don’t you just go, or you can go now. Either way it was about as unprofessional as I’ve seen.
I understand two staff will get stressed trying to handle this but the management put them into that position . They know they don’t have staff, they know to order enough milk, ( not like Fry’s grocery isn’t next door) and they can’t make coffee? ) They should know never to berate the customer for requesting an item to match that on the menu. All in all until an under new management sign appears or their franchisee is kicked into shape I’d avoid dining in at this place

No commentsoh my a bad case of wind. Ducati Multistrada mirror falls off in use.
Took the bikes out the other day. I’m currently on a Ducati Multistrada S which is meant to be suitably impressive. I don’t think they got their reputation from their mirrors though. ( I’ll get into the pulsing braking at low speed and the impressive heat generation under my cans, from the cans later but not never the insanely bad handling in sidewinds)
The wind. The stock mirror was broken from the bike at under 100mph by wind, nothing hit me the bloody thing just sheared off and flopped atop my right hand, you know the braking and accelerating one, causing interesting moments. Will be a fun chat with dealer on Monday
new week old blah
Go to Dr, take it easy they say , no really just don’t do anything stressful. Spend the next day with Kid hurling in cafe, Erin being ill then me throwing up over several hours 2100 - 0400 last night.
This may not be what the DR ordered. I’m suffering from an annoying bout of mortality this week.
No commentsBrief Iron man thoughts Nicely burnished :)
Really enjoyed most of this apart from what now seems to be the ,hinted at , obligatory torture porn that really seems to excite the locals.
That being said I’d like to annoy the camp that have taken the “arms merchant repents ” meme and failed to realize that at a fundamental level nothing changes. Neal Young’s “kinder gentler machine gun hand” is still in force for the ultimate resolution. Seemingly they haven’t, like the RIAA, got a clue that making something available for , oh let’s call it evil, does not obligate a human to carry out that evil.
No commentsThis is the kind of thing that “Dear Abby” didn’t cover: Otters eating kittens.
Over at Yahoo Answers there are people that have the need to ask questions such as
Will an adult otter eat 10 week old kittens.?
It’s not someone looking for a cheap, but adorable, way to feed otters but the replies are great. So if the idea of kitten consumption offends I’d steer clear of this.
No commentsweekend. the dearth of posts continues.
Been a tired few weeks. Resentment of the "is what it is" crowd has been diverted to more constructive pursuits, napping.
I’ve had this before , played this scene before, and the manner that two societies deal with a condition, that on the surface seems contrary to their myths about how to behave, is worryingly the same.
Organizations are formed to achieve a goal which is quickly superceded by the need to keep on being an organization over and above the need to carry out the reason they were formed.
Here’s a Fish lyric from his battle with a record company that kinda sums up my "quiet" period.
You swear contradictions
your tedious monologues, wielding authority,
Demanding subservience, demanding
I make your sense.
Demanding speaking in tongues.

No commentsSome news: Another general post.
Alas,
I sold the GPZ1100 tonight. This was one of the bikes from my semi youth that I wanted to own , ok I REALLY wanted a ZZR1100 which was the Hayabusa of its day and is still faster 0-60 than a Scot asked to pay for dinner. Odd sale too. The new owner hasn’t ridden in a long while and I tried lightly suggesting that this is not the ideal bike to reacquaint yourself with cycling in dense traffic like Phoenix. So I hope he really took the info to heart about the training and waiting to get legal prior to taking it out since it was a pretty nice bike prior to sale. Hell the only reason I am passing it along is garage space and the small issue of having another amazing bike to ride:)
Other news? At last I joined the iPod crowd with… an old micro:) Audio books are back in my life without having to rip them from Audible to play on my own system( Hopefully Amazon solve that BS soon I would like to listen to what I paid for on my own choice of hardware, not theirs. First up is “Altered Carbon” which is sci fi and is so far rather good. I have this interest in how prevailing morality , hah!, will be affected when death can be sidestepped , identity tied to a body is fleeting and we stop relying on idiots to keep us safe.
German media / people prove Americans don’t monopolize the stupid headline
A polar bear eats fish and people are surprised? Dummkopfs!
Now if the polar bear braided the hair of a little girl,Changed from Coke to Pepsi or migrated to the woods and then used a porta potty that may be news. Otherwise I think there’s a few more items that should be placed in that enclosure for the bear to play with:D
The Frankfurter Allgemeine news website reports that Knut “senselessly murdered the carp”, fishing them out, playing with them and then leaving the remains.

No commentsUnintended consequences: public smoking bans shift death to sooner rather than later
People in bars , be they smokers or non smokers , are there because they have chosen to be. That’s insufficient reason to allow them to make that choice they are adults after all. Many localities have stepped in to prevent such choice because.. well because they think they have a right to do so. Practically they do. With enough guns and clipboards you can claim about anything you like.
like it will save lives
“Preventing smoking in public places is a proven public health intervention that saves lives,” Vigil said.
Very rarely do we get a chance where a single vote can save lives,” Curran said.
Here’s a plausible reason for suggesting that it’s not as much saving lives as choosing who gets to die, e.g unintended consequences to someone’s desire to save lives.
“The increased miles driven by drivers who
wish to smoke and drink offsets any reduction in driving from
smokers choosing to stay home after a ban, resulting in increased
alcohol-related accidents,” the study says.
A national study to be released by the Journal of Public Economics found an increase of fatal accidents involving alcohol after communities prohibited smoking, compared to arrests in communities without a ban.
Seatbelts save lives? It all depends on whose lives you want to save.
Statistical evidence indicates that seat belts save the lives of many
drivers and front-seat passengers. But a recent survey of automobile
accidents in Britain suggests that drivers who wear seat belts may
represent a new menace to pedestrians and bicyclists.
I’d rather the people engaged in the primary behaviour assume the risk of doing so , smoke, crash or take your liver out in your own time. Seems better than paying for the privilege of being nannied to death.
No commentsMyspace sued by people with no sense of irony.
I hope they win. Then I hope the daughter sues the parents. You know the people that took on the responsibility to protect their kid. Seemingly they don’t.
Family’s lawsuit claims MySpace responsible for daughter’s assault
Gregory Coleman, a lawyer for the girl’s family, said the law only gives MySpace a “limited shield” from liability.“It has a responsibility to (protect) children,” he said.
The girl, identified as Julie Doe in court papers, was 13 when she created a MySpace profile in 2005. MySpace requires users to be at least 14, but the girl misrepresented herself as 18 years old.

This has to be The most amusing tale of marsupial on man action I’ve seen for a couple of weeks.

Holy crap Rand* gets it right on occasion:D The state doesn’t want you to obey the laws, in fact they plan otherwise. Traffic cameras
To all that have scoffed at the idea that safety wasn’t the primary motivating factor for red light and speeding cameras this piece on msnbc, looks suspiciously like investigative journalism.Which living in Phoenix and reading only the AZ Republic you’d be unfamiliar with.
Anyway since most people that read this are thinking, duh! that’s not news I will concede you have a point. It’s not for you it’s for the people that comment every time the local paper prints a story involving cameras. These lovers of all things that remove responsibility jeer at those that may have an alternate view. We’re dismissed on the belief that we’re doing it solely because we’re spoiled children that just want to do what we want. Projection?
I don’t buy that the way to increase responsibility is to provide a surrogate for it that circumvents the need for awareness. This is not a Utopian freedom rant as there are practical applications in the the real world
note. I hate people, oops better expand that :), I hate people that satisfied that the appearance of solving an issue, even when there are doubts to it efficacy ( e.g DARE) are readily conceded , counts for actually doing something. What they don’t get is that they preclude many other paths they could take that may even be effective. That is if your goal is to actually modify behaviour and not set up a revenue stream to keep your organization going.
Speed cameras are just that thing:)

*”Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against… We’re after power and we mean it… There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll beNo comments
much easier to deal with.
Proving my point : There’s a blog, forum and podcast for everyone. one of Man’s oldest diseases makes it to the information age.
One of the ways I “sell” podcasts and blogs to people is by telling them that no matter how esoteric their interests are that there is likely to be a blog , forum and podcast about it. Yep even the people with embarrassing conditions have groups. ( no they are not the same as churches but a good guess my cynical reader;) )
Seriously my reivers diet of flesh , blood and offal when combined with inactivity has not only caught up with me it’s taken an early lead. That is going to stop. Oh that an my ancestors. Bastards that’s why we never invite you around to dinner ( Oops riffing off DNA there)
Dark Ages..
Dr’s , medical journal and chance running into people with the same condition. Unlikely. The most you get is a pamphlet of organizations that survive by your condition surviving:D So you get 2-3 xeroxed copies
Today.
If I relied on the hand outs , about gout, without a doubt I’d be a more depressed otter. As it is, and as it seems to be with most conditions, the cause and effect has been established by the women in white coats, a reduction of Xtra beef causes less whY does this hurt? Sadly it’s mostly the widest bromides with information that is taken from the most extreme cases and then generalized into rules for everyone. E.g Low sodium. for those that need it great, sadly that means “everyone” since the medical people don’t want to send wrong messages. e.g hey ethnic group a : you are more at risk from this but to make you feel better we’ll tell everyone to do the same. Same with gout.
Now I have to work out what’s true for me.

Well at least they’ve managed to work out that sans human interaction the pistol didn’t fire itself. I’m not going to speculate on how it occurred , I have my own Occam moment of having fired tens of thousands of rounds but having 3 go off unintended ( one was a malfunction of hardware, the other two totally operator error) says that there’s a chance that the policies in place are not sane ones. E.g Why the donald duck would you want to even handle / touch a firearm that’s peacefully napping.
The bullet left the plane at 8000 ft which at least saves the Mythbusters from having to show that gunfire on a plan doesn’t equal instant death spiral.Shame as Jamie does seem to enjoy that part:D
