Tonight my pc and I had a chat. My wav editor Sound Forge decided that it was going to fail, so was Acid 4 and the vegas vid editor. In other words my media production abilities were down. The error kept saying log file was being generated and , er no it wasn’t there were no log files in the prog directory, nor incidents within the windows event log. So first, I behaved like a car mechanic( modern school) and tried to isolate the unit by substiution. Downloaded Soundforge 8 trial and had exactly the same error appear, after the plugins inintialised boom forge fell over with same very general message. I broke out filemon ( captures the I/o requests to the hard drive ) and saw that for some weird reason Soundforge 6 and 8 were interacting with my ip9100a viewer which is for an embedded linux camera server specifically IPKAMvfw.dll was being hit then the program went foom. . I removed the program et voila SF6 and 8 are now functioning again. Weird , very weird but I am glad that if I put my mind to something I can punch a pc back into happy order. It’s like a kick I get when trying to program , except this shit was actually useful for a change.
